Last Friday, there was the commotion that is Comex 2009. I’ve chatted with several people online that I might be going down to check out the fair. Yet when I left the train on City Hall and climbed up the stairs towards Suntec City, I had a change of heart and head in the opposite direction…
I went to Cathay Photo and got myself a 50mm f/1.8 MK II prime lens by Canon.
This lens, as commented by a guy from across the Causeway, is the greatest steal to get. Although it’s a stop slower than the fabled f/1.4, this is the most affordable fast prime lens available for consumers. This lens is so small and light, I felt like being at one with the photographers of old with their trusty rangefinders (not!).
So I took the opportunity to take in on the scene of Comex 2009, as seen with my 450D and my 50mm f/1.8.

Broke my fast at Burger King. Later on, I regret eating fast food, because my stomach is being 'tsun' on me.
Wow, the 50mm works wonders as a street lens. Who would’ve thunk of it? I think I’ll be sticking this lens more “permanently” on my DSLR.

Looks like someone is having fun with his first prime lens? Bokeh abuse! And ‘grats on the purchase.
Heh. Primes are great for their portability and IQ. Makes you think better too. I started out with the M50/1.7. Next thing I knew I had an FA43/1.9 and a K135/2.5. If I had my way, I’d get myself the DA15/4, FA31/1.8, FA77/1.8 and FA100/2.8. Well, since I don’t have the moolah, older manual focus alternatives do just fine for me. Simply put, I love Pentax line-up of pancake primes. Join us….
