After reading through one of the local forums’ take on employment agencies here, I must have been stupid to deal with them in the first place.
In the beginning, I decided to look for a job after my contract with another company has ended some time back. I used a lot of jobs portal websites to submit my resumes, in the hopes of landing myself a job. Most of the time, the employment agencies contribute the most number of online postings, so I have sent my resumes to some of them.
It is also noted that some of these employment agents do post their advertisements on newspaper classifieds. But the gist of it, was that a lot of my sent resumes had no reply. Only a few employment agents replied back to me, stating that they are processing my resume and match them to several clients that require positions that fit my qualifications. Most of the time, however, no professional reply came back. Fustrated, I had almost lost hope on finding anymore job through the online job portals; they have become unreliable through the massive spam by a lot of employment agents. It did not helped that there wasn’t any notice to remind jobseekers (in most of the job portals) that the position had been taken. It took me one direct online application form from another employment agency to get a reply. This time, however, the job is related to my diploma studies: IT. Albeit a lowest form of job, it’s nonetheless a job that I can take, to boost my working experience. Mind you, I applied the form at the employment agency’s website. All my emailed resumes seemed futile, if you asked me. One revelation got me when I read the mentioned forum: it seemed that replying directly to the company gives you better benefits and salary than the ones provided by employment agents. I guess that they took some commission off from my salary. Urgh. That explains my low wages from my previous contract employment. I’m becoming more cynical of the way the capitalist system works, God Willing some better form of economic system may come and destroy this current system. It’s crooked, and open for abuses.
