Followers of the anime fan community have already heard of the Otaku Elimination Game, and Danny Choo’s upcoming Otacool 2 book launch. I’ve been following the two entities since they came into my consciousness, and while I believed this topic has been done and sealed by many, I find the enmity too powerful to be left un-commented.

The Forgotten Characters – How Anime Franchises Are Born & DiePosted by TP in Anime, OP/EDWhile in Malaysia, I got the opportunity to watch several anime shows dubbed in Bahasa Malaysia. Not many people appreciate this, but I find the voice actresses in some of the characters very much likeable, not unlike the monotonous – and sometimes very similar – English voice actresses I heard on Animax. Clearly 77 Star Pte. Ltd. has groomed these voice actors/actresses well to ensure their liveability in a Malay language-majority market. However, the intention of this post is not about the quality of voice actors and actresses in the region. My intent of this post is to highlight the rise and fall of anime franchises.
It was through no surprise that I watched Mahou Sensei Negima and School Rumble on ntv7. As I watched the two series, the question arose in my consciousness: “Will anyone really remember both series long after the brouhaha died?” Tags: Anime, media observations, OP/EDWhen you realize that all that tireless following of a show, only to expect that the show did a one, big “F*** YOU!” in a form of sloppy, clichéd and haphazard manner to ending a story (or, to put it quaintly, guaranteed a sequel), what more can you take the insult anymore? Well, Autumn 2009’s Kämpfer just gave me that middle finger sign.
The amount of dreg that was put into this one segment, cannot justify the many facepalms, sighs and flamethrowers I want to throw at this series. Others take it in their slide; this guy had it enough. In fact, I’d just post up an Adepta Sororitas with a flamethrower to burn this to Warp. If there was a speech I like to say, it’d be, “F*** you, animation studios! And that goes to all the new anime series pending to air or planning for review. Give me back to pre-2007 quality shows or I will instantaneously label all new anime shows as ’sucks.’ All hail all the old anime shows, for they are truly evergreen and can snuff out at the new shows!” Tags: Anime, autumn 2009, kampfer, WTFH?!

My Trip to Evangelion 2.0: I Can (Not) Make ItPosted by TP in Anime, Events, Photo Walkthroughs, Photography, What I'm WatchinYesterday (November 14, 2009) a horde of otaku decided to congregate together and march towards Cathay Cineleisure to watch Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance. Yours truly self-invited himself to the event – because I knew the event was planned since late last July – in the anticipation of Anime Festival Asia 2009, due in 6 days’ time. As for me, the trip to Cathay Cineleisure is also an adventure in itself. The old adage said, “It’s not the destination that mattered, it’s the journey that counts.” I finally found my impetus to attend AFA’09, knowing that the event might be more terrible than last year’s. The Hentai Debate: How I Actually Sidetracked Into Discussing ItPosted by TP in Anime, OP/ED, WTF?!, all and sundrySometimes, I wonder: what does it take to enjoy hentai? As we know, the recent Japanese eroge companies’ ban on foreign IPs accessing their websites as well as the heightened awareness of this shady side of the genre, (with no thanks to Sankaku Complex for being such a scat), brought up the issue of putting into mainstream consciousness the existence of hentai and eroge materials that are put up freely everywhere. In this OP/ED, I would like to express my deepest thoughts on this matter, why I felt that the Japanese have the right to block foreigners from providing such materials, and what is my prediction for the near-future. Tags: equality now, eroge, hentai, hentai debateSo I guess every other freaking anime blogger that attended the presscon has blogged about this afternoon’s event that was held at Suntec City (wait, I thought it was supposedly held at iluma?). I do the readers here a favour: I will not rehash any more information than what these people had done already. My intention is to bring my first impressions of the event, my feelings about it, and ultimately what I view about the entire thing altogether – I may even touch on the subculture in general –. (General Warning: this post may, or may not, contain inflammatory content. Viewer discretion is advised… If I were you, get a thick skin and enter at your own risk. Details are after the jump. Also, if you’re particularly offended by my subsequent writings, I suggest you stop reading this, and move to other “self-affirming” websites.) Tags: afa '09, anime festival asia 2009, ramblingsThe participants of the event have yet to come back home, so now I’ll be the first to report in the highlights of today’s press conference for the Anime Festival Asia 2009. Actually, I’m not gonna bother posting up a lot of pictures: Naka-Dashi has already put up the website much earlier, and with more pictures than I can suffice. Basically, I’m interested in the following: Seiyuus Apparently, they invited Yoshiki Fukuyama and Shoko-tan to complement the return of Ichiro Mizuki and May’n. Yeah, so that makes four artistes to grace Singapore’s shores. I wonder if the anime blogosphere will react adversely to this. But other than that, the rest are pretty much self-explanatory. You should refer to Anime Festival Asia 2009’s website for more details, as well as its twits, to check out the anticipated lineup. I’ll blog more about this event as soon as my head clears. Tags: anime festival asia 2009Let’s start off with tickling MrMayat’s weakness for Yuno (of Hidamari Sketch). By now, every other blogger has announced the upcoming Hidamari Sketch’s 3rd season production. More Yuno, more yay slice-of-life, more… hmm… Why did I do this again? Oh, yes, to tease MrMayat. ![]() More Yuno goodness? (Credits: {link:http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=2267594}いずの犬太{/link}) Today, I like to talk about Bakemonogatari. ![]() Did I hear Senjouhara Fascination? Credits goes to いずみ({link:http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=5448831}pixiv{/link}) The year was 2007. It was one day before Singapore celebrated its National Day. It was also the day that I received the foreboding letter that everyone has come to know of. (I decided to make public what happened in the three years between then and now, for it shall be known that I was that person who decided to stand his ground. The rest of the Internet populace will discard this piece as frivolous nonsense coming from an unknown blogger; those who had known me – both in real life and those who knew me through IRC and/or frequent exchanges via blogs – will no less be surprised by my revelation. If people decided to hate me, that will be fine: I have since am serene in this matter, and it will not matter to anyone anyway.) Tags: 2007, Anime, Odex, odex saga |
